The Providence Scoliosis Brace

There are several types of scoliosis bracing in use today, each with their own protocols.

We have chosen to use the Providence brace and protocol for our scoliosis patients because it provides good results with minimal disruption of the patient’s daily life. 

One of the problems that other bracing protocols have is that they require all-day use of the brace.  Scoliosis bracing is typically bulky and restrictive of movement, so all-day wear is physically uncomfortable and can be socially awkward for a child or adolescent who is already struggling to fit in with her peers. 

With the Providence bracing protocol, the brace is only worn at night when sleeping.  Although it may be uncomfortable at first, most patients quickly adapt to sleeping with it, and most are happy to do so if it means they can be treated without having to wear a brace to school or during other daily activities. 

Once the brace is fitted, X-rays are taken with the patient wearing the brace to ensure that the brace is having the desired corrective effect on the scoliotic curve as shown below:
