Scoliosis Spinal Joint Correction
One part of our San Antonio scoliosis treatment program is the correction of spinal joint function using a special form of spinal joint manipulation and decompression known as Flexion-Distraction.
Flexion-Distraction utilizes a special treatment table (shown above) that allows the doctor to move the patient through various ranges of motion while applying stretching and manipulation of the spinal joints by applying pressure with his hands.
In the case of scoliosis, sideways curvature of the spine is accompanied by rotation of the spine. The Flexion-Distraction table can be positioned to counter the spinal rotation and sideways bending in order to even out the tension on the soft tissues that run along the spine. This reduces the inequality of the muscular forces occurring on the left and right sides of the spine.
As the contracted side of the spine is decompressed with these methods, the spine begins to remodel with a more symmetrical growth pattern. This promotion of symmetrical spinal growth is further enhanced with vibratory therapy.
